Babakekere

Popular Theatre Producer Joseph Edgar also known as The Duke of Shomolu in conjunction with Frontline Real Estate Franchise Purple, is bringing to the Agip Recital Hall of The Muson Centre a riveting play on the life and Times of well respected elder Statesman and the first Civilian Governor of Lagos state Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

Babakekere,  written and directed by Makinde Adeniran fta takes a cursory and exciting look at Alhaji Jakande’s historic tenor drawing its inspiration from his inaugural speech which carried with it the dreams and aspirations of Lagosians at that time and which continue to astound present day Nigerians

In some of the most scintillating dramatic storytelling ever, Makinde who also directed and wrote the very successful Awo will weave a suspense filled and penetrative theater extravaganza that will throw up a nostalgic feeling in the audience as they get inspired by the vision that made Alhaji Jakande’s foray into education, housing and health a signpost of visionary leadership.

In beautifully synchronized song and dance sequences, Babakekere will engage, educate, and inspire audiences as we move towards 2023

Already, the Lagos State Government and some of its strategic parastatals, like LASAA, LIRS, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Arts with the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, are powerfully supporting

Meanwhile, Bonu Solomom Special Adviser to His Excellency Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is serving as Co – Executive Producer. He would be ably supported by prominent Lagosian, Kayode Olowu while Mofoluwake Edgar MD//CEO Duke of Shomolu Productions is coordinating Executive Producer.

The Command Performance of Babakekere, which is expected to host Mr. Sanwo-Olu and his cabinet, would be taking place at the Glover Hall Marina with the larger Jakande family led by Hon Deji Jakande in full attendance.

Babakekere is coming on the back of the stupendously successful double decker productions- Awo and Aremu which showed last September at the historic Glover Hall and which attracted the Vice president Prof Yemi osibajo, The Honourable Speaker of The Federal House of Assembly, Mr. Femi Gbajamiabila, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and a host of other prominent Nigerians.

The Duke of Shomolu Productions has emerged as the fastest growing theatre production franchise in Africa with over twelve major productions, including Emotan, Isale Eko, and Ufok Ibaan, to mention a few as part of its offerings.

Over 100,000 people have physically seen their plays, and they are poised to deliver Emir Sanusi and Sardauna, which is expected to attract President Mohammed Buhari in October 2022

Babakekere is further supported by First Bank of Nigeria, Zenith Bank, Wema Bank, F&c Accessories, and Anchor Insurance, amongst others.
