Violence has broken out at the Ogun State All Progressives Congress rally, held on Monday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
Some people believed to be supporters of a political party in the state were seen chasing away supporters of the APC governorship candidate in the state, Dapo Abiodun, from their seats, with people seen running for dear lives
It was a divine intervention that President Muhammadu Buhari escaped being hit by stones as hoodlums pelted the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole, with stones.
The programme, which commenced officially immediately after President Buhari arrived the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, was paused for some minutes following the violence.
Violence erupted when Oshiomhole was invited to the podium for his speech.
As he began to speak, persons suspected to be hoodlums started throwing stones at him and one of the stones flew in the direction where the President was sitting.
He was saved by one of the security operatives who took the hit for the President.
The development angered the leaders of the party, including former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, who left the podium while the President was making his remarks.
The situation was so tensed that the attackers, who were armed with weapons such as clubs and charms, pounced on anyone wearing yellow attire, the colour known with Abiodun and his supporters.
It was further observed that many of the victims sustained injuries while trying to escape from the attackers.
Some of the people hurriedly removed the clothes and caps bearing Dapo Abiodun’s insignia.
Due to the attack, all the seats earlier occupied by Abiodun’s supporters were vacated.
President Buhari, who has flown in from his campaign rally in Kwara State, could not believe his eyes.
